Culture: Thailand

Today we had music in our culture session.

We learned about Thailand's National Instrument, the Khong Wong Lek (gong circle).

We watched a YouTube video of the instrument being played and listened to its distinctive sound. We learned that each individual bell is the same size, but they are tuned by inserting different sized balls of softened beeswax the dampen the vibrations. The different sizes mean that the bells play different notes when struck with a beater.

Ask us what we know about the Khong Wong Lek!
